What We Do
The Healing Presence Singers, a Philadelphia-based “comfort choir”, provides comfort and loving presence to those people and situations in need of healing and accompaniment through some of life’s most significantly challenging moments and transitions. Led by Founder and Music Director, Holly Phares, this unique and dedicated roster of local singers can be found singing in small ensembles of 4 – 6, bringing ease and comfort to those on the threshold between living and dying. Other situations in which we share our songs of hope and solace could include singing for persons undergoing cancer treatments, persons living and struggling with HIV/AIDS, persons incarcerated in our prison system, and social justice -oriented rallies within the City of Philadelphia.
Who We Are
Members of The Healing Presence Singers consist of a colorful tapestry of folks whose common thread is a longing to serve, through their music and shared voices, those people and situations in our community that are in need of comforting and loving accompaniment. We range in age and experience, including teens through post-retirement; diverse cultural backgrounds; students through professional nurses, executives, teachers, professional musicians, health care workers, and more! Although not a religious organization, some of our singers identify with specific religious traditions, while others might simply resonate as “spiritual” with no particular label.
